http://www.institut-francais.ro/spip.php?article282

" Soutenu par le Ministère de la Culture roumain et l’Ambassade de France, soucieux de s’impliquer dans la sauvegarde du Petit Paris, j’ai lancé un défi à de jeunes photographes roumains : comment rendre le public conscient des ravages qui s’accomplissent pourtant sous leurs yeux et susciter des élans pour la défense d’un patrimoine inestimable. Bucarest ne mérite-elle pas mieux que sa réputation de Mal-Aimée ? "

Old Fashioned Romania : Romania is - or it was - a conservative land, where people was still acting as they did 50 years ago. But now these customs are on the brink of extinction, new ways of life being imposed by agressive television, which destroyed - in most cities and many villages - traditional way of life. Transsilvania is relatively better preserved in this respect, partly because of former Austro-Hungarian education.
I am trying to keep in images that old good Romanian habits and the Romanian soul, now replaced by the globalization...
Pictures taken since 2003 all round Romania.
For details, feel free to ask me on e-mail at iamandc@yahoo.com !

Picturesque Romania : Romania is a very beautiful country. But we, Romanians, are careless about environment, so, after 1989, we degraded the landscape by neglecting the proper use of land and, mostly, by destroying thousands and thousands of acres of forests... For making some money, in exchange of our industrial losses... This, in adition of building houses without a plan, or some minimal attention to the aspect of the land, lead us to have now autharchical villages and cities. In Romania, deforestation lead to massive landfalls, climate changes, drying rivers and so on...
The mountains are - in some areas - less touched. Again, in Transsilvania, the situation is a little better.

Roma, citta aperta... : The title, borrowed from first neo-realist motion picture from 1944, says all about Rome of today: a wide and open city, where not only the remains of its ancient glory are interesting, but also the people of today, its culture and habits. And also ...well, also the three wheeled scooters !
What to say about Rome in only few words ?

Abandoned industrial spaces : Industrial places -and most of all, deserted ones - always inspired artists, because of their romanticism and melancholy : the once powerful and aggressive machines are now idle and cold. The monster is numb, or even dead, you can touch it or even take a revenge upon it ! The revenge now can be to use the industrial abandoned areas, like railway sheds, factory halls, chemical plants, silos, mills, breweries and so on, as film sets or dwelling spaces...

Industrial Archaeology in Europe : Industrial Archaeology is a field which tries to revigorate Industrial sites, once prosperous, now almost forgotten, by making them interesting to the public, or reconverting them, in form of museums, lofts (in Pittsburgh, for example, or London), touristical centres or wandering paths...
My wife, Architect Irina Iamandescu is one of the most important specialists in this field in Romania, and she made me love this topic !
I started making pictures with Industrial relicts since 1998.

Forgotten Romania : Many villages and often entire towns are left almost untouched by the what some call "progress"... And this is very well, not only for the happy and astounished visitors (like me), but also for their inhabitants. It is a time capsule.

Montserrat, Catalunya (Under Construction ) : One of the many attractions of Catalunya, the Montserrat Monastery lies on the rocky mountains above the River Llobregat Valley. The panorama from here is breathtaking, in clear days, from the top of the mountains, they say you can see Palma de Majorca ! The most picturesque way to get there is by cable car (beside a road and a rack-railway), built by Adolf Bleichert und Co. in 1929.
